The Weather is Here, Wish You Were Beautiful
He worked hard all year, just wanted a few weeks alone. But his old lady's into modeling, and she can't stay away from the phone...Besides, she bitches about the mosquitoes. She says "Down there there is nothing to do." And her goddamn phone never stops ringing, so he'll try the service in a day, maybe two... Well, he's on his third drink before the
wheels of the plane leave the ground. Making points with the stewardess climbing high over Long Island Sound...She's also spending some time on the island. Too much city life gives her the blues. So they make a date to go dancing and dining, seems neither has that much to lose...The weather is here, I wish you were beautiful. My thoughts aren't too clear, but don't run away. My girlfiend's a bore, my job is too dutiful. Hell, nobody's perfect would you like to play...I feel together today... Well now that was just the start of a well-deserved over due binge. Meanwhile back in the city, certain people are starting to cringe. His lawyers are calling his parents. His girlfriend doesn't know what to think. His partners are studying their options, and he's just singing and ordering drinks..The weather is here, I wish you were beautiful. The skies are too clear, life's so easy today. The beer is too cold, the daquiri's too fruitiful, and there's no place like home, when it's this far away...I don't care what they say...

He's going back to New York, pack it up and let everyone know. It was something that he should have done such a long time ago. Still time to start a new life in the palm trees, Billy Clyde wasn't insane! And it doesn't work out, there'll never be any doubt that the pleasure was worth all the pain...The weather is here, I wish you were beautiful. The skies are too clear, life is easy today. The beer is too cold, the daquiri's too fruitiful, There's no place like home when it's this far away...I need time for to play...Time for to play...

Fins
She came down from Cincinnati. It took her three days on the train.
Lookin' for some peace and quiet; hoped to see the sun again.
But now she lives down by the ocean. She's takin' care to look for sharks. They hang out in the local bars,And they feed right after dark.
Can't you feel 'em circlin' (closin'in) honey? Can't you feel 'em swimmin' around? You got fins to the left, fins to the right, and you're the only bait in town. You got fins to the left, fins to the right,
and you're the only girl in town.

She's savin' up all of her money. Wants to head south in May; Maybe roll in the sand with a rock'n'roll man, Somewhere down Montserrat way. But the money's good in the season; Helps to lighten her load. Boys keep her high as the months go by. She's gettin' postcards from the road.

Can't you feel 'em circlin' (closin'in) honey? Can't you feel 'em swimmin' around? You got fins to the left, fins to the right, and you're the only bait in town. You got fins to the left, fins to the right, and you're the only girl in town.
Sailed off to Antigua. It took her three days on a boat. Lookin' for some peace and quiet; Maybe keep her dreams afloat. But now she feels like a remora,'cause the school's still close at hand. Just behind the reef are the big white teeth of the sharks that can swim on the land....

One Particual Harbour

IA ORA TE NATURA. E MEA AROFA TEIE AO NEI. IA ORA TE NATURA. E MEA AROFA TEIE AO NEI

Nature lives (life to nature). Have pity for the Earth (Love the Earth)

I know I don't get there often enough, but God knows I surely try. It's a magic kind of medicine that no doctor could prescribe...I used to rule my world from a pay phone, and ships out on the sea. But now times are rough and I got too much stuff, can't explain the likes of me...But there's this one particular harbour. So far, but yet so near. Where I see the days as they fade away, and finally disappear...

But now I think about the good times down in the Caribbean sunshine..In my younger days I was so bad, lLaughin' about all the fun we had, I've seen enough to feel the world spin, mixin' different oceans, meetin' cousins, listen to the drummers and the night sounds, listen to the singers make the world go 'round...

IA ORA TE NATURA. E MEA AROFA TEIE AO NEI. IA ORA TE NATURA. E MEA AROFA TEIE AO NEI

Lakes below the mountains, flow into the sea...like oils applied to canvas, they permeate through me And there's that one particular harbour. Sheltered from the wind where the children play on the shore each day, and all are safe within. Most mysterious calling harbour, so far but yet so near...I can see the day when my hair's full gray and I finally disappear \

IA ORA TE NATURA. E MEA AROFA TEIE AO NEI. IA ORA TE NATURA. E MEA AROFA TEIE AO NEI UA PAU TE MAITAI NO TE FENUA. RE ZAI NOA RA TE ORA O TE MITIE...Bounty of the land is exhausted, But there's still abundance on the sea...

Cheeseburger in Paradise

Made it nearly seventy days losin' weight without speed, eatin' sunflower seeds, drinkin' lots of carrot juice and soakin' up rays. But at night I'd have these wonderful dreams, some kind of sensuous treat...not zucchini, fettuccine, or bulgur wheat, but a big warm bun and a huge hunk of meat. Cheeseburger in paradise. Heaven on earth with an onion slice. Not too particular, not too precise, I'm just a cheeseburger in paradise...I like mine with lettuce and tomato, Heinz Fifty-seven and French fried potatoes. Big kosher pickle and a cold draft beer. Well, good God Almighty, which way do I steer for my cheeseburger in paradise....
Heard about the old time sailor men, they eat the same thing again and again; warm beer and bread they say could raise the dead. Well, it reminds me of the menu at a Holiday Inn. But times have changed for sailors these days, when I'm in port I get what I need; Not just Havanas or banana or daiquiris, But that American creation on which I feed! Cheeseburger is paradise, medium rare with Muenster'd be nice. Not too particular, not too precise I'm just a cheeseburger in paradise. I like mine with lettuce and tomato Heinz 57 and French fried potatoes. Big kosher pickle and a cold draft beer, Well, good god Almighty which way do I steer For a cheeseburger in paradise...Makin' the best of every virtue and vice. Worth every damn bit of sacrifice,To get a cheeseburger in paradise; To be a cheeseburger in paradise.
I'm just a cheeseburger in paradise...

Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On
I bought a cheap watch from the crazy man, Floating down Canal...It doesn't use numbers or moving hands...It always just says now...Now you may be thinking that I was had, but this watch is never wrong, And if I have trouble the warranty said:

Breathe in breathe out move on

And it rained, It was nothing really new. And it blew...We've seen all that before. And it poured, The earth began to strain...Pontchartrain, Leaking through the door.Tides at war If a hurricane doesn't leave you dead, It will make you strong. Don't try to explain just nod your head: Breathe in breathe out move on

And it rained, It was nothing really new. And it blew, We've seen all that before...And it poured, The earth began to strain, Ponchartrain Buried the Ninth Ward To the second floor...

According to my watch the time is now, The past is dead and gone. Don't try to shake it, just nod your head: Breathe in breathe out move on...Don't try to explain it, just bow your head:

Breathe in breathe out move on

Come Monday

Headin' up to San Francisco for the Labor Day weekend show. I've got my hush-puppies on, I guess I never was meant for glitter rock and roll. And honey I didn't know that I'd be missin' so...

Come Monday It'll be all right, Come Monday I'll be holding you tight...I spent four lonely days in a brown L.A. haze and I just want you back by my side...

Yes it's been quite a summer, rent-a-cars and west bound trains. And now your off on vacation, somethin' you tried to explain. And darlin' I love you so that's the reason I just let you go...

Come Monday It'll be all right, Come Monday I'll be holding you tight...I spent four lonely days in a brown L.A. haze and I just want you back by my side...

I can't help it honey, your that much a part of me now. Remember the night in Montana when we said there'd be no room for doubt. I hope your enjoyin' the scen'ry, I know that it's pretty up there. We can go hikin on Tuesday, with you I'd walk anywhere. California has worn me quite thin, I just can't wait to see you again...

Come Monday It'll be all right, Come Monday I'll be holding you tight...I spent four lonely days in a brown L.A. haze and I just want you back by my side....

Southern Cross

Got out of town on a boat goin' to southern islands, on a reach before a followin' sea. We were makin' for the trades on the outside, and the downhill run to Papeete Bay. On this heading off the wind lie the Marquesas. We got eighty feet of the waterline, nicely making way...
In a noisy bar in Avalon I tried to call you. But on the midnight watch, I realized, why twice you ran away. I think about, think about how many times I have fallen, Spirits are using me, a larger voice is callin'.
What heaven brought you and me, cannot be forgotten...
I have been around the world, Lookin' for that woman-girl...Who knows love can endure. And you know it will...you know it will...
When you see the Southern Cross for the first time, you understand that's why you came this way. 'Cause the truth you been runnin' from is so small. But it's as big as the promise, the promise of a coming day.
And I'm heading all the way, my tears are a dyin'.
And my love is an anchor tied to you, tied with a silver chain.
I have my ship and all her flags are a flyin'
She is all that I have left and music is her name. I think about, think about how many times I have fallen, Spirits are using me, a larger voice is callin'. What heaven brought you and me, cannot be forgotten...
I have been around the world, Lookin' for that woman-girl...Who knows love can endure. And you know it will...you know it will...
So we cheated and we tried and we tested. And we never failed to fail, it was the easiest thing to do. You will survive being bested. Somebody strong comes along, makes me forget, forget about loving you...at the Southern Cross.

Manana

She said I can't go back to America soon. It's so goddamn cold, it's gonna snow until June. Yeah, they're freezing up in Buffalo, stuck in their cars, and I'm lying here beneath the sun and the stars...Customs man tell her that she's gotta leave, but she's got a plan hidden up her shrewd sleeve. Wants to find her a captain, a man of strong mind, and any direction he blows will be fine...Please don't say manana if you don't mean it. I have heard those words for so very long. Don't try to describe the ocean if you've never seen it...Don't ever forget that you just may wind up being wrong...

Tried and I tried, but I don't understand...Never seems to work out the way I had it planned. Hanging out at a marina, when Steve Martin called, singing "anybody there really want to get small." But women and water are in short supply, and there's not enough dope for us all to get high. But I hear it gets better, that's what they say, as soon as we sail on to Cane Garden Bay...Please don't say manana if you don't mean it. I have heard your lines for so very long. Don't try to describe the scenery if you've never seen it...Don't ever forget that you just may wind up in my song...

Called all my friends on those cheap nightly rates. Sure was good to talk to the old United States. While the lights of St. Thomas lie twenty miles west, I see General Electric's still doing their best. But I've got to head this boat south pretty soon...New album's old, and I'm fresh out of tunes. But I know that I'll get 'em, I know that they'll come through the people and places and Caldwood's Rum...So please don't say manana, if you don't mean it. I have done your lines for so very long. Don't try to describe a Kiss concert if you've never seen it...Don't ever forget that you just may wind up being gone...
And I hope Anita Bryant never does one of my songs...

Everybody's on the Phone

Message in a bottle, rhythm of a drum...Smoke signals and telegraphs make the airwaves hum. But that's all ancient history like bongs and Lincoln Logs. Now we livin' like the Jetsons in a wacky wireless fog. Talkin' squawkin' hawkin' who knows if anybody's gettin' through...Toasters talk to crackberries, Boston to Bombay. Teenage schemes and Ma-bell's dreams as minutes tick away. We act like crazy people talking to ourselves, Crashing cars in conversation while that shit flies off the shelf. The information superhighways locked up like a L.A. traffic jam...
Everybody's on the phone, so connected and all alone. From the pizza boy to the socialite, we all salute the satellites. Let me text you with your master plan. You're loud and clear, but I don't understand...I'm a digital explorer in analog roam, and everybody's on the phone...
Do you remember dialing up? Yes I remember well...Now I just can't go anywhere with out that sacred cell. I think that I might die if I miss anything at all. Text me, send me an e-mail, link me up, give me a call. I'm ADD on AOL tryin to read the writing on the wall...
Everybody's on the phone, s
o connected and all alone. From the pizza boy to the socialite, we all salute the satellites. Let me text you with your master plan. You're loud and clear, but I don't understand...I'm a digital explorer in analog roam, and everybody's on the phone...
Now I'm a real jungle jumper, I'm a megahertz man. I swing from tree to tree on the very latest plan...On the download In the dropout zones, In every major city 'cross the land. I got my Marley on my ringtone, get up, stand up, reach out, touch somebody man...
Everybody's on the phone, s
o connected and all alone. From the pizza boy to the socialite, we all salute the satellites. Let me text you with your master plan. You're loud and clear, but I don't understand...I'm a digital explorer in analog roam, and everybody's on the phone...
Can you hear me? Can you hear me now? I gotta get over by the beerstand...Oh shit my batteries are going, I'll call you back...
